The Resplendent Quetzal is the National Bird of Guatemala, and it´s pretty easy to know why; its iridescent feathers that glow when the light hits them, the red feathered breast, and its stunning long tail that can grow up to more than 90cms.

Come and join me on this photography tour where we will visit the Cloudy forest of Guatemala to photograph this amazing bird among some other birds in the area, such as Hummingbirds and owls.

WHAT TO BRING?

• A DSLR camera with a telephoto lens

• Enough batteries and memory cards

• A sturdy tripod

• A shutter; could be wired or wireless, doesn´t matter and it doesn´t have to be super expensive

• An external drive and laptop to download your photos

ITINERARY

Day 1:

This photo tour will start in Guatemala City (or I can pick you up in La Antigua in case your hotel is there).

I´ll pick you up at 9 am to drive to the town where we are going to spend the night.

Night in a hotel in double accommodation.

Day 2:

Drive to the trailhead where we are going to hike for about 1:30 hour to see and photograph the Quetzals nesting, and also we are going to visit a spot to see one of the smallest hummingbirds in the world, the Ruby-thoated Hummingbird.

We also are going to walk to find a beautiful owl.

Hike back to the hotel to pick up our stuff.

Drive to the next location.

Night in a hotel in double accommodation in a private reserve.

(Optional night walk to look for some owls like the Black and White Owl, Mottle Owl, and the Northern Potoo.) Not included.

Day 3:

Early walk to look for local birds and the gorgeous Long-tailed Manakin!

We will find several other birds near the trail.

Return to Guatemala City after midday.

End of service.
